Description:
Big, bright, dramatic edge-on galaxy with a HUGE dusty lane across the center, in Coma Berenices
Telescope/Mount:
Takahashi FC100 4" f/8 refractor on a Losmandy GM200 mount 
Camera and Control Software:
Starlight Xpress HX916 unbinned (1.733 arc-secs per pixel); Maxim DL-CCD 3.05
Exposure:
18x5mins

Dark subtraction and flat-fielded

Gamma 0.9 stretch in Maxim

ST4 and Orion Apex 90 Mak-Cass
Date and Location:
12-Apr-02 around midnight from Ventana Wilderness Expeditions campground in the mountains above Carmel Valley, CA (near Chew's Ridge)
Seeing, Transparency and Conditions:
Conditions were outstanding. This is a dark site and the seeing varied from very good to excellent. Wind ranged from dead calm to a slight breeze. Temps ranged from the mid-forties to the mid-fifties.

Several other galaxies are visible in this field, see if you can identify them.
